Tebas said it was not necessary for UEFA or anyone else to put pressure on Infantino to clarify exactly what he knew about the Super League, and said at a press conference: “I know that members of FIFA have met with the ideologists behind the Super League.

“I know that clubs were convinced that FIFA was going to be behind the project. I have analysed (Infantino’s) last declarations at the FIFA congress and he has never said outright that he hasn’t met them, because he has met them.

“The Super League ideology is now within FIFA, it’s as if they also believe in that, and that’s affecting football negatively in general.”

Tebas said it was no coincidence that the motion to study the impact of biennial World Cups had been put to FIFA congress by Saudi Arabia.

“Saudi Arabia, through Softbank, wants to finance all these World Cups and Club World Cups, because otherwise how are they going to get money?”

He said LaLiga would resist any indirect pressure from FIFA or anyone else to cut his competition to 18 clubs.

“They cannot indirectly change our structures and we’re going to defend it legally if necessary,” he added.
